This summer vacation was so different from all of the summer vacations I have ever had. I went to a small town Hobbs, New Mexico to visit my boyfriends family and really get to know all of them. Because it was a small town and most of his family lived there, I got to meet them all and visit them often. I loved having all his grandparents so close and getting to take turns visiting all of the family members.
New Mexico was different than i'm used to. Instead of going to the beach in my free time we would go to the boys house (Zach's friends house) and play board games. Personally I love board games, LOVE THEM, but I have never played so many in a short period of time.
The town was small and almost all shut down at 10pm. The fun thing to do at night was to play dominoes with grandma, and man did she wipe the floor with me!
While I was there we celebrated GranBoddy's (Zachs grandmother) 80th birthday!! I was so lucky to be apart of that! This family is so much fun, in that they take family photos for big occasions such as this---And I love taking pictures!! They welcomed me into the photos like I was part of the family! I love them as my own so quickly.
This was one of the crazy pictures! Well we had more crazy than normal and that was a lot of fun to do!
One of my favorite photos was a couples photo that Zach and I shared with his fun parents!
Another fun fact that I found out about New Mexico is that everyone has turtles in their yards!! And you even seeing them walking on the side of the highway all the time. I couldn't believe how many I had seen here. In San Diego there are not so many turtles here unless you go buy one for a pet.
Here is the male that is in Zachs yard. He is roughly about 20 years old!!! I also didn't realize they live so long!
With the fun also came the work. I worked as a pet sitter some days and Zach worked at Applebee's as a server. On the weekends was the tough work! We went to Zach's Aunt Nancy and Uncle Dave's house in Roswell, New Mexico to stucco their house. It was a great opportunity to lean a new skill but in the hottest of weather. I't was no easy task for the two of us either. It took the whole summer to compete the house. But we built some character in the process. ;)
While in New Mexico my family came to visit me and meet Zachs family. I loved their visit out, even though it was so short. While there my nieces desperately wanted to visit Roswell, NM and see the alien exhibits. During the visit we did run into a few aliens along the way...
I'm so thankful my family made it out to visit in Hobbs, NM and got to experience a little bit of what I got to!
Here's my lovely family and I at the Living Desert (small desert animal zoo).
Last, but not least, I got to experience a "real 4th of July." In San Diego it is illegal to set off ant fireworks that are bigger than sparklers so I got to set some off in New Mexico where it is legal. It was a lot of fun seeing them so close and being part of the action. Though it was pretty dangerous with the boys being somewhat reckless...I guess boys will be boys!
We had $600 worth of fireworks here:
Well that was my fun summer in Hobbs, New Mexico. What a trip and tons of memories I get to keep form that!
Thanks Hobbs Family!!
