I got to go snorkeling on May 21st 2014 and had a blast! I got to explore the La Jolla Cove with my coworker and her daughter. After squeezing into a wet suite for the first, which was a challenge in itself, we put on our fins and began to walk backward into the water, also a challenge! We were instructed to swim backward until we were completely submerged in water up to our necks and could not touch the ground. Then we got to turn around! This was when we could put our head underwater and begin to breath through the snorkel. It was the weirdest thing!! You can see the fish below all whole just listening to your breathing. We really only got to see the fish before we got past the waves. Once we got past the waves it was to foggy to see anything. We swam out to the caves where we got to swim with the sea lions, "dogs of the sea." They left us well alone, which we were thankful because they are HUGE up close. Unfortunately we were unable to go into the cave because the swell was too big but it was a great experience anyway. Once we got out of the water we were all a bit tired. I am not sure if it was sea sickness since I have never had that, or if it was the way we were breathing into the snorkel. We got out and were dizzy. After about a half hour of relaxing we felt better and had worked up quite an appetite. Snorkeling was a lot of fun, but for next time I would have to do my research in when would be a good time to go when it is clearer to see the ocean life.
